She grew up working on the family farm where her favorite past-time was picking cotton. She hated gathering eggs because she never knew what was in the nest.
After graduation from Blountsville High School in 1941, she moved to Birmingham, where she attended business college. She lived in Norwood with girlfriends where they would dress up in their best dresses and high heels and go downtown to window shop and the movies on Saturday afternoons. She worked as a bookkeeper until retirement at age 85.
When family members asked what reminds them of Granny many images come to mind: gardening, canning, hummingbirds, honeybees, green thumb, flowers, and snacks after school.
She is a former long-time member of Beechwood Baptist Church where she volunteered as a cook for 20 years. She was currently a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Pinson, Alabama.
