Mary Christine Abbott

Mary Christine Abbott (Gan-Gan), age 83, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 with her family by her side. Mary was born on December 25, 1935 in Warrior, Alabama. Before her death, she resided at Morningside of Vestavia Hills Assisted Living and enjoyed daily activities and socializing with her friends. She especially enjoyed Bible studies with Mrs. Ruth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel and Nolie Thomas. She was survived by her siblings, James Thomas (Lue), Ellaweise Crane (John), and Mike Thomas (Linda). She leaves as her legacy three daughters, Sharon Bonnaffons (Gil), Donna Porterfield (Stephen), and Ellen Jenkins (Ken) along with her grandchildren, Brandon Bonnaffons (Kerri), Kristen Schulkens (David), Mallory Chambers (Joseph), and Connor Porterfield and four great grandchildren.

She retired from American Family Care, but her most enjoyable job was being a stay-at-home mom with her three girls for twenty years. After retirement she enjoyed spending extra time with her grandchildren.

A celebration of life visitation for Mary will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. A celebration of life service will occur Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM, at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. A private family burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
