Marie resided at Skyline Retirement Village in Homewood. She was a graduate of Phillips High School. She was a loving and devoted wife, step-mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
Marie was a member of Central Baptist Church. In her younger years, she was an active member of Gardendale First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and worked with the youth and children’s departments. Marie enjoyed crocheting, jewelry making, line dancing and cooking. Marie loved being around family and friends more than anything. Our younger family members and many friends affectionately called her “Mamarie”.
Marie worked in the medical field in Gardendale for many years, then after retirement served as an elementary school nurse.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Burlie James, her parents, Ray and Mildred Easley, brother in law, Blaine McElfresh and nephew, Drew Rushton.
Marie is survived by her son, Wendell James (Sharon), two brothers, Gene Easley (Sherry) and Clyde Easley (Sandra), two sisters, Jewel Fortner (Ben) and Blanche McElfresh. Three grandchildren, Wendy Lucas (Adam), Rachel Morse (Matthew), Sarah Thomas (Bradley), Six greatgrandchildren, Cole, Blake, Beau and Peyton Lucas, Malakai Thomas and Micah Morse. Three nephews, Bryan Easley (Shelia), Wes Sanders and Kevin Cook, two nieces, Robin Pichelmayer (Kirk) and Leigh Rushton (Yancey) and great nieces and nephews, Luke, Ellen, Mason, Maggie(Reid), Patrick(Madison), Paige, Palmer, Hope, Colby, Ali, Conner & Anna, and great-great niece and nephew, Asher and Clara.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to a charity of your choice or share your memories with everyone on Marie’s Facebook page. She enjoyed keeping up with friends and family through Facebook.
