Margaret Sue Parker, age 86 of Gardendale, Alabama went to meet Jesus face to face on July 8, 2021. She was born in Cullman County, raised on a farm with her five older siblings and graduated from Fairview High School. Howard rescued her from the cotton patch and they were married on March 20, 1953.
After her retirement from Alabama Power in 1995, she enjoyed crafts, sewing and embroidering clothes for her granddaughters. Sue was very active at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church where she demonstrated her love for others by making costumes and banners for church pageants, laminating Bible verses and inspirational messages to give to others, as well as making and delivering countless cakes and meals over the years. She had the gift of hospitality that was clearly evidenced by her lifetime of making any visitor too the church feel welcome by offering to show them to a Sunday School class and inviting them to sit with her during church.
Sue and Howard have always had a heart for missions. Their home was always open to host missionaries anytime they needed a rest stop during their travels. In lieu of flowers, the Sue Parker Memorial was created to provide support to three of the missionaries they have supported over the years. Contributions can be sent to Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.
Sue is survived by her devoted husband Howard Parker; children, Debbie Poland (Gary), Gene Parker (Janet), and Kristie White (Lyndell); granddaughters, Elyse Kirby (Lance), Julie Parker (Jeb), Alicyn Poland, and a great granddaughter, Kalli.
Services for Sue will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel with a time of visitation to begin at 1:00 PM; funeral service at 2:00 PM, followed by her burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, AL.
