Margaret Holmes passed away November 28, 2023 at her home in Gardendale, Al, surrounded by her loving family, She was born on December 26,1927. At the age of 95, one month sly of 96, she was a bundle of love and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dolphus Holmes; parents, Charlie and Ruby Eidson; brothers, Billy and Bobby Eidson; sisters, Betty Harbison, Merlene Abbott and Ann Eidson.
Survivors include her daughters, Sheila Tate (David), Nancy Breitenstein (Terry) and Kim Chapman (Mike); sister, Virginia Ledbetter; sister-in-law, Theresa Holmes, Shirley Eidson Coad; grandchildren, Matthew Breitenstein (Brittany), Meredith Breitenstein, Corbitt Tate (Heather), Steven Tate (Caroline), Daniel Chapman (Jamie) and Clayton Chapman; great grandchildren, Noah Breitenstein, Olivia Breitenstein, Luke Breitenstein, Finley Tate, Hudson Tate, Cobb Tate and Ada Tate. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved being with.
Faith was always an important part of her life and she instilled the same in her children and family. Margaret was a long time member of Beechwood Baptist Church and most recently a faithful member of East Gardendale Baptist Church.
Margaret was a beautiful, kind and loving person who always had a smile on her face and a hug for everyone. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister in law and devoted friend.
Family, faith and laughter were a huge part of life. It was not a true celebration unless the entire family was there. She will be forever missed; but remembered forever.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers, who became special family, Melissa Stephens, Gail Griffin and Linda Dendy, She so enjoyed the mornings they shared talking over cups of coffee. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of ProHealth Hospice, especially Beverly Wilson RN and Falicia McLaughlin RN, who consistently provided outstanding, loving care. A special thanks to Dr. Ben Jones and Dr. Monica Riggins for their care, guidance and compassion throughout this difficult journey. Thank you to Dr. Roxanne Travelute who was her physician for 30 years . Margaret always thought of her has family.
A visitation will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. The funeral service will occur Monday, December 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to East Gardendale Baptist Church.
Margaret will be laid to rest in Oakwood Memorial Gardens, 2100 Moncrief Road, Gardendale, AL 35071-2374.
