Kenneth Nelson Higginbotham, age 70, of Pinson, Alabama passed away in Fultondale, Alabama on Tuesday May 21, 2019. Kenneth was born September 1, 1948 in Birmingham, Alabama. Kenneth was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Samuel Pate Higginbotham and Jo Ethel (Nelson) Higginbotham - Masters. Kenneth was the proud father of four children. Preceded in death by his first born son Kenneth L. Higginbotham formerly of Clinton, North Carolina. Survivors include Shannon P. Higginbotham and wife Nicole, Angela Higginbotham Ellis and husband Thomas of Clinton, North Carolina and Jennifer M. Higginbotham of Shalamar, Florida. He leaves behind his brothers and sisters to cherish his memory. Peggy Jo Skelton and husband Mac of Fultondale, Alabama, David H. Higginbotham and wife Peggy of Marietta, Georgia, Robert L. Higginbotham and wife Marilyn of San Antonio, Texas, Carl Higginbotham and wife Pam of Jasper, Alabama. Kenneth's memory will live on through his loving grandchildren of which there are 19 and also 11 great-grandchildren. Kenneth was a man of many interest and talents. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and attained the level of Eagle Scout, receiving the prestigious " Arrow of Light", before ultimately becoming a scout leader. Kenneth enjoyed membership in the " Order of the Arrow" where he learned of Native American culture. He also loved making flint rock arrow heads. He was a graduate of Berry College where he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity and received his Bachelors degree in K-12 education with certifications in art and behavioral disorders, minoring in Psychology. Kenneth also proudly served the United States of America as a Staff Sargent in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a dental technician. As an adventurous soul Kenneth enjoyed scuba diving and instructing scuba diving. He was a talented artist, poet, and was extremely creative. Ken often had conversations with strangers for long periods of time because he literally never met a stranger. As a father, brother, mentor and friend Kenneth left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of everyone that he met. His friendliness, loving character and zest for life will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life visitation for Kenneth will be held Monday, May 27, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, Alabama 35071. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 11:00 AM, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, Alabama 35071. A burial will occur at Remlap United Methodist Church Cemetery, 17259 Remlap Drive, Adjacent to the Church at Remlap, Remlap, Alabama 35133.
