James Gregory “Greg” Thomason, 48, of Gardendale, AL passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Greg was born in Jefferson County on December 6, 1969, to James Randall Thomason and Ethelda Langston Thomason. He was a 1988 graduate of Gardendale High School. Greg attended Jefferson State Community College later graduating from the University of Alabama Birmingham in 1993 with a degree in Mass Communications and a minor in Journalism. While attending college, Greg worked at the North Jefferson News in the Sports Department. For 19 years, Greg owned and operated Double Header Sports in Gardendale. After closing the store in late 2009 due to health issues related to Epidermolysis Bullosa, a rare genetic skin disease, he continued his passion for sports cards and memorabilia with an online business. Greg enjoyed traveling, sports, Auburn Football, Atlanta Braves baseball, and fantasy sports leagues. Greg was an active member of the Decatur Highway Church of Christ for over thirty years. Words cannot express the void that will be left in our lives of all who knew and were inspired by him. Greg was a perfect example of how everyone should approach life as he lived every day to the fullest. There will never be another like him; no one could ever replace him in our hearts. We are all so thankful that the Lord put Greg in our lives and for that we are forever grateful, blessed, and by far better people for knowing him. We would like to thank our extended family who were by his side these last thirty days. A special thanks to Dr. George Tisdale and his staff for twenty-two years of continuous care.
