He was baptized at Glen Chapel Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School and has been a devoted and faithful noble of the Zamora Temple Mystic Shrine for over 50 years. He was a talented construction superintendent working on many buildings in Alabama. He retired to Smith Lake for the last 35 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Patsy Hall Hathcox. He is survived by his children, Mickey Hathcox (Patricia), Pam Thomas (Allen); grandchildren, Nicole Raughton (Donny), Garrett Hathcox (Lara), Natalie Williams (Zac), Alaina Grauel (Dylan-deceased); 7 great grandchildren and sister, Sisley Hathcox Ferris
A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
