James D Birmingham Sr

James Dempsey Birmingham Sr., born January 20, 1936, from Center Point, Alabama, passed away Thursday December 5, 2019, at Princeton Hospital, at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Sally Ann Birmingham Myers, his father John Clifton Birmingham, his mother Willie Madge (Otts) Birmingham, his sister Barbara Charlene Crutchfield, his brother John Everette Birmingham Sr. and two great granddaughters Lily Mae Ji, and Destiny Marie Walker.

He is survived by his daughter Deborah Kay Walker (Bobby), two sons James Dempsey Birmingham Jr. (Paulette), and Ronald Steven Birmingham (Sherry), 14 grandchildren, 29 great grand children, 10 great great grandchildren, two sisters Willie Maxine McLemore and Mary Ann Carden, two brothers Rogers Clifton Birmingham, and Allen Thomas Birmingham (Doris).

He was born and raised on a farm in Sulligent, Alabama as the middle child with 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He graduated Sulligent High School in 1954. At the age of 19, he married his sweetheart, Sally Ann Brown of Beaverton, Alabama, when she was 16. They moved to Birmingham, Alabama where he worked misc jobs until he was hired at Birmingham Electric Battery Company working the sales counter. He eventually moved to outside sales where he received numerous sales awards including “salesman of the year”. After 28 years at BEBCO, he was hired at Auto Electric Carburetor as their sales manager. At the age of 70, he retired from 51 years in the auto parts business and worked another 8 years at Birmingham & Associates until he injured his leg and retired from physical work. He was truly one of a kind. He was a loving father, a compassionmate friend, a giving person, a dedicated and loyal employee. At 6’ 4” he was a big man in stature but had an even bigger heart. He loved helping those who were in need. He loved his wife, kids, grandkids great grandkids and great great grandkids. He enjoyed going to many of their ball games. You could hear him cheering, with pride, from the stands as he enjoyed watching them and just being there to support them. He always put others before himself. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling, and financially supporting the casinos while playing the slots. Most of all he loved his family and friends.
