James L. Bennett, Jr., of Gardendale, Alabama went to be with the Lord on June 5th, 2024 at the age of 79. Jim graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama - Birmingham. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. Jim retired from Xerox as a Technician after many dedicated years.
Jim's creative spirit knew no bounds as he expressed himself through various art forms, from painting and drawing to woodworking and gunsmithing. His faith and compassionate nature were evident through his active involvement at Central Baptist Church, where he partook in numerous mission trips, served on the men's disaster relief team, and graciously fulfilled the role of an usher. Jim's legacy of kindness and selflessness was further exemplified in his unwavering commitment to helping others.
In loving memory, Jim is preceded by his mother, Margaret Jacks Bennett; his father, James L. Bennett, Sr.; and his sister, Elizabeth Bennett Hamilton. Left to cherish is memory is his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 32 years, Myra Dean Bennett; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Ginger Humber; his beloved granddaughter, Jylian Faith Humber; his nephews, Shane Yarbrough and Jason Yarbrough; his cousins, Billie Sue and Bob Kendrick; and many friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 9th, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel. A Celebration of Jims' Life will begin at 2:00 pm at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel on Monday, June 10th, 2024.
In honor of Jim, contributions can be made to Central Baptist Church - Missions at 4650 New Found Rd, Mt Olive, AL, in lieu of floral tributes.
Jim's enduring roles as a devoted husband, a doting grandfather, a caring stepfather, a cherished father-in-law, and a faithful friend will leave a void that cannot be filled. His presence will be deeply missed but always treasured.
