Eddie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn (Cloud) Russell, brothers Jr. and Alton (wife Ann) Rusell and daughters Kimberly (Russell) Creel (Husband Thomas) and Lisa (Russell) Combs (husband Chris) and eight grandchildren: Reed (wife Allye) Combs, Caroline Combs, Aaron Creel, Isabelle Combs, Avery Creel, Addison Creel, Logan Combs and Laura Kate Combs along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Eddie graduated from Fultondale High School and served in the U.S. Army in Korea where he was a helicopter mechanic. Upon returning from his tour in Korea, he worked for the Jefferson County Wastewater Treatment Plant from which he retired. He loved the thrill of buying and selling anything, building things, working on home improvement projects, working in his yard and helping neighbors. He loved God and was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Warrior, Alabama. He loved family and spent his time enjoying them each and every day through a variety of hobbies. He was the one on whom everyone knew they could call for any reason at any time. To his grandchildren he was simply Papa the man who loved them dearly, to his girls he was Daddy the one who always protected them and made them feel safe in this world, and to his wife he was Eddie, the man who loved her unconditionally and never left her side. To everyone he knew and touched he was the kind, generous, loving person who lived his life genuinely professing his faith and encouraging others to do the same. His absence will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
The family is asking for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Russell’s name in lieu of flowers.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, February 9th, 2021 at Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale, AL, in the Garden of Prayer.
