Doris joined her husband Roy L. McDowell and her son Jimmy Ray Cain who had gone home before her.
Doris is survived by her son, John H. Cain, her daughter, Candace Cain (Don) Palmer, her stepson, Mike (Sheena) McDowell, her adopted daughter, Sharon (Paul) Stafford, granddaughters, Katlin Maze, Chloe Palmer, Michaela McDowell, and Laura (Brendan) McTear , and great grandchildren, Miya, Skylin, Owen and Luke, and her brother, Carl L. (Diane) Thomas.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Sam J. Thomas and Myrtle E. Self, a brother Sam Junior Thomas and a sister Shirley Ann Hurst.
Doris started her career in real estate in 1970 after graduating from Jefferson State Jr. College. She worked in real estate as an agent and broker for almost 50 years and was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Club. Doris was an owner of Cedar Realty and Cedar Crest Realty. She was a Gold Star Mother and an active member of Church 212. Doris had a passion for living life and sharing life to the fullest. She loved to travel, cook, shop, and spend time with her friends and family. Doris loved the Lord and all her brothers and sisters in Christ.
Mrs. McDowell will be laid to rest on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Visitation will be at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel starting at 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM.
Doris asked that donations be made to Children’s Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital or St. Jude Hospital in lieu of flowers.
