Daniel Danny Morris Nix

Daniel (Danny) Morris Nix, age 58 lost his battle with cancer on October 20, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Hildy Nix. He is survived by his wife Karen Smith Nix, son Jonathan (Lindsey), son Stephen (Jecca), daughter Brianna, stepdaughter Hannah Smith, stepson Riley Smith and granddaughter Lynlee Kate Nix. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and by the mother of his children Darlene Nix. Danny was born in Olympia Washington while his dad was stationed in Canada in the Air Force. After his service, his dad moved his family home to Alabama where Danny grew up. He graduated from UAB and eventually started Danny Nix Nationwide Insurance in Gardendale. Danny was active in many civic organizations and served as President of the Gardendale Chamber. He was elected to the Gardendale City Council where he was instrumental in the building of the Civic Center, Senior Center and Post Office. For many years, Danny coached baseball at Gardendale’s Little League Park. He took great pride in teaching boys athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Danny loved the game of golf- especially the friendships he made and built while on the course. Those friends were always an important part of his life. Danny was a loving husband, a devoted father and stepfather, and a loyal friend. He had a great sense of humor and a caring heart. He will be terribly missed by all whom loved him. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 23, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Gardendale First Baptist Church South Campus with visitation from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Church, burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale.
