Catherine Thompson Grimes

A lifelong resident of Gardendale, Catherine was born March 28, 1921, and died March 21, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents, Ola and S. T. Thompson, Sr., her husband of 62 years, Charles Grimes, Sr., her son, Charles Grimes, Jr., great grandson, Lucas Harran, brothers Jack and Sam Thompson, and sister, Louise Woodward. Catherine is survived by her daughters, Shirley Juban and husband Lynn, Gigi Scott and her husband, Walker, her son, Stephen Grimes and wife Carol, and daughter-in-law, Mary Grimes, granddaughters Mary Catherine Grimes, Katie Juban, Julie Smith and husband Brian, Jenny Hamil and husband Ryan, Ivy Pullen and husband Justin, and Kyndall Louise Scott, grandsons, Charles Todd Grimes and wife Jamie, Hal Juban, Samuel Grimes, and Ben Grimes, great grandchildren, Fisher and Lawson Grimes, Hudson, Porter, Truitt, Adalei Smith, and Isla, Clara and Heidi Hamil, sister- in-law, Betty Thompson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Catherine, her husband, and parents owned and operated Gardendale Skating Rink. Catherine was a real estate broker and with her husband, Charles, owned Grimes Realty Company. She and Charles were involved with the church and community, volunteering for many activities. She was a devoted member of East Gardendale Baptist Church, a charter member of the Garden Dale Garden Club, past president of the Gardendale School PTA. She retained an interest in current events all of her life. Catherine was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many people. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation from 9:30 AM until services at 11 AM will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on March 25, 2017. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens, Gardendale.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to East Gardendale Baptist Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
