Bob Lee Gillespie

May 4, 1928 – May 26, 2014

Bob, 86, born in Birmingham, AL to Tom and Lula Bell Gillespie. Attended Jefferson County Schools and graduated Jefferson County High School, Tarrant in 1947. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1947 and served in Texas, Illinois, Guam and Okinawa. He was discharged from Eglin Field, Florida in Dec. 1951. He was employed at Acipco in the Machine Shop and Inspections Department and retired in 1984 with 32 years of service.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and step mother Clearsie Gillespie; daughter, Bobbie Alline Gillespie; sister, Elma Calloway; brothers, Howard and Thomas Gillespie.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Millie Gillespie of Fultondale; son, Michael Allen Gillespie (Shannon); grandchildren, Kelsey and Will of Pinson, AL; nephew, Gary Gillespie (Kristen) of Suwanee, GA; niece, Nancy Hayden of Oneonta and a host of friends.

Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with a visitation on Wed. May 28 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm with a funeral service on Thur. May 29 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale, AL. with the services officiated by Rev. Keith Thompson and Rev. Ralph Bates.
