Billy is survived by Jeri, his beloved wife of 68 years. They have two children, Tami Ellis (Shaun) and John Simmons (Maria), four grandchildren, Cali Wilson (Kyle), Peyton Leet (Josh), Madison Long (Jordan), and Miah Simmons, and great-grandson, Levi Leet. Billy is also survived by his brother, James Larry Simmons of Wilsonville, AL.
Billy was a charter member of Blount Springs Baptist Church, an ordained deacon, and was employed by Carraway Methodist Medical Center for 32 years before retiring to Orange Beach, AL, where he and Jeri lived for over 20 years. There, they made many memories as family and friends would come to the coast. Their home was always open, and they enjoyed the laughter and fellowship with each visit.
Billy was a man of simple pleasures, finding immense joy in fishing and the beauty of gardening. Some of Billy’s gardening specialties were cultivating tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and turnip greens, which flourished under his care. His gardens were a topic of conversation with friends and fellow gardeners as well as at the table when enjoying a meal. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those he touched.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 2nd from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 am. A private burial will take place at Sulphur Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please support your favorite charity.
