Herb was a private man but was giving and generous in the way he lived his life. During his high school years he attended the Ft. Union Military Academy and from an early age joined the U.S. Army serving a tour of duty in Europe. Following the service, he worked for the Long Beach Navy Yard working to monitor and repair the ships' gyroscopes. Herb was a collector of old things, an antique car enthusiast and restorer. He loved eating crabs especially from the Chesapeake Bay and he would break the mood with a sense of humor. He dedicated his life to the welfare of his son. His pride was expressed each day through some form of love and affection. His family cherishes the life of this simple but inwardly good man.
