Carol Cribbs was born Sarata Carol Atwood in Ashe County, North Carolina, on December 14, 1938; the daughter of John and Helen Atwood. She spent her early childhood in Ashe County. As she grew, the family moved north, first to Virginia, and then to Maryland.
At the age of fourteen, they moved to western Pennsylvania, in the rural area surrounding Pittsburg. It was here that she met the love of her life, Harry Cribbs. She married Harry at the tender age of sixteen. This marriage took place in the Lutheran Church in Josephine, Pennsylvania, on September 3, 1955. This couple was blessed with three children; two daughters and a son, Cindy, Karen, and Doug.
For Harry and Carol, it looked like the west coast was the land of opportunity, and on December 1, 1958, they moved to La Puente, California. They relocated to Garden Grove in 1962, finally settling in their home on Reva Drive. While living in Garden Grove, the family was brought in contact with King of Kings Lutheran Church, where they became members.
Carol was primarily a homemaker, but occasionally took part time work to help make ends meet. These jobs included waitressing, working for a construction company, and even opening a printing business. She always had time for her children, which involved managing sports teams and being proactive in her son’s Christian education.
In 1990, Harry was diagnosed with prostate cancer. While Harry was battling his ailment, Carol was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006. Harry was called to his heavenly home in February of 2007.
Remaining strong through her constant treatments and loss of her husband, Carol always maintained a positive attitude while continuing to share time with her family and friends. She always looked forward to holidays with family and loved her Wednesday morning breakfast group from King of Kings.
Carol was hospitalized on October 10, 2011; she returned home on October 25, 2011. There she was surrounded by her family who provide love and care. She was comforted by the reassurance of her faith through daily devotions by her Pastor, Tim Wempner. She entered eternal life on October 29, 2011, the day after her daughter Karen’s birthday.
Carol Cribbs is survived by her son in law and daughter, Chris and Cindy Miller; daughter, Karen Meghrouni; her son and daughter in law, Douglas and Karen Cribbs; her brother and sister in law, Robert and Pat Atwood; her sister, Donna Villanueva; her six grandchildren, Jennifer, Harry, Justin, Ashley, Brooke, and Cory; her four great grandchildren, Andrew, Caden, Morgan, and Nariah; plus numerous friends and family whom she loved very much.
