She met the love of her life Michael "Mickey" Griffin on a double date with her best friend Marie. Mickey was actually Marie's date at the start of the evening. But Cookie and Mike had eyes for each other from the very first moment. Love at first sight you might say. So while the boys stepped away to grab the girls some popcorn, the girls thought it would be funny to switch seats. It was this kind of sassy confidence Cookie was known for. 3-weeks later they wanted to get married. Her father made them wait long enough until she turned 18 and in February 1961 Mickey and Cookie tied the knot.
The two immediately started their family and eventually had their hands full with 5 children - Michael also "Mickey", John "Johnny", Michelle "Shelly", Mark and Joseph "Joey". After Joe was born, they packed up and moved to the west coast, settling in Southern California to finish raising their family.
Cookie loved weather and famously had the weather channel playing in the background practically 24-hours a day. Although she swapped New England weather for the high desert, she lived for a good desert rain storm with thunder, lightening and even sprinkles of snow.
It can go without saying that those who knew Cookie remember her for her quick wit, big laugh and sassy attitude. She will also be remembered for the immeasurable love she had for her family, especially her grandchildren and all of her pets.
Cookie passed away at home with her children surrounding her and after her last breath the sky opened up a gave her one last good storm. She will be greatly missed and forever cherished.
