Willie (WILL) Curtis Fleming of New Albany, Ohio departed his earthly life to be with his Lord on September 5, 2024, at 6:40 PM. Will was a native of Phenix City, AL, born March 28, 1939, to Henderson Fleming and Blanch Watkins Fleming. He was the baby of five children and was affectionately referred to as Baby Brother by his family and people from his hometown, Phenix City.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was taught and served under the covenant of the Protestant / Baptist faith, He attended Mother Mary Mission Catholic Schools, Phenix City, Alabama from elementary through high school. Upon graduating from Mother Mary Mission, he enlisted in the United States Army and was trained as an electronic technician. He was assigned to work on the Army's Lacrosse Guided Missile Program. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he continued education in business administration and soon after was selected for a technical position with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Lewis Research Center, now John Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio. He leveraged his technical and business knowledge and later served in the Acquisition Department as Contracting Officer. He often shared that he worked on many research and development programs and enjoyed all, however, he was most proud of the one project that involved obtaining clean water to the people of Gabon, Africa.
Upon retiring from NASA, after 36 years,, and relocating to Columbus, Ohio, he served with the COTA Acquisition Department, to strength the transportation systems. Additionally, he worked with Cherokee Information Services where he supported DOD Contracting, for the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.
Will loved to play golf and work in his garden and lawn. He did so until his body said “NO”. He also loved to dance and enjoyed music of all genres.
Will's education extended from Mother Mary Mission Catholic High School to Thomas Edison University, Trenton, New Jersey, Cuyahoga. Community College and Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio. He also completed extensive studies in Contract Law and Contract Pricing.
Willie Curtis Fleming had a remarkable life of services. and in his own words, “I only hope and pray that God's purpose for me has been fulfilled”. He leaves to mourn and to cherish memories, his wife of 55 years,(June, 1969) Ruth Clemons Fleming and their two sons, Rodney Fleming (Kenico) and Marcus Fleming, Gahanna, Ohio; two children from a previous marriage, Kim Monique Fleming Walsh, Atlanta, Ga, Son, Eric Fleming, (Doris) Long Island, New York; Grandchildren, Timia Fleming, Kennedy Fleming, Quincy Fleming, Gahanna, Ohio, and Mason Fleming, New Albany, Ohio.
