He was born September 19, 1932 in Port Huron, MI to the late Wilbert and Hilda Fleury.
Joe served in the Army from 1953-1955 and was stationed in Germany. He then went on to be a Computer Systems Analyst for the Department of Defense from which he retired. Joe was an active member of the St. Matthew Parish since 1973, where he enjoyed volunteering with Charitable Works Ministry and Friends Across Time, and serving as a Eucharistic Minister taking Communion to nursing home residents and the homebound and for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce; children Leigh (Tacy) Fleury and Denise (Paul) Stratton; grandchildren Brenna, Mathieu, Grayson, Christian, Clara, and Marianne; sisters Bonnie Snowden and Annette (Pat) McAuley; brother Jim (Deborah) Fleury; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 6 sisters and 5 brothers.
Joe was happiest by the water, spending summers in Northern Michigan and winters in Jekyll Island, Georgia, and could always be found with his dog at his side.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6 from 10:00am-11:30am in the gathering space of St. Matthew the Apostle, 807 Havens Corners Rd, Gahanna, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:30am. Father Ted Sill will officiate.
Services will conclude with interment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Pataskala.
