Vanuse Mitchell II, of Gahanna, OH transitioned peacefully on May 27, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born May 25, 1966, in Fort Riley, KS, to Vanuse and Delores Mitchell. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents Annie (Leroy) Trotter-Hartfield and John Mitchell.
Vanuse grew up and attended school in Junction City, KS. He participated in Cub Scouts and learned to play the trumpet during elementary school. After graduating high school, Vanuse enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country being honorably discharged in 1995. Vanuse then embarked on a second career with the US Postal Service, from which he retired in August 2023. His dedication, work ethic, and devotion to duty were undeniable. He was a loving attentive father who always provided while encouraging independence. He proudly wore the title of mentor and friend to everybody. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and watching sports. His favorite teams being the Chiefs and the Buckeyes. He was also an avid music fan, The Isley Brothers being his favorite band. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Vanuse will be sorely missed by his devoted wife, Lisa Kilpatrick-Mitchell; adoring children, Vanuse Mitchell III, Aaron Mitchell, and Mya Mitchell of Gahanna OH. Grandchildren: Skylar Cotman, Madisyn Gibbs, and Adonis Mitchell of Columbus OH. Sisters: Darlene Cundiff of Columbus OH, Hadiyah Dansby of Junction City KS, Deliliah Hamilton of Junction City KS, Yolanda Witherspoon of Minneapolis MN, and Avelina Mitchell of Carmel IN; his lifelong friend and brother Phillipe Greene of Columbus OH along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 E Johnstown Rd. On, Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 11 AM. Following the service will be a reception until 3 PM.
