Stephen Paul Weikel, age 78, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 18th. He was born on September 8, 1944 in Portland, Maine to the late Eugene and Helen (Smith) Weikel. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother George Weikel.
He proudly served in the Maine Army National Guard for 14 years before moving to Ohio. He was the plant engineer for Borden Ice Cream for 20+ years. Following that, he worked for Magnetic Springs and Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceutical before retiring.
He is survived by his loving wife Diane Weikel; children Eric Weikel, Ronda (Wallace) McClure; grandchildren Kirsten and Brad McClure; siblings Larry Weikel, William (Carol) Weikel, and Roland (Joan) Melcher.
He was a loving and caring person who kept in touch with family, friends, and classmates on Facebook. He always looked forward to traveling back to Maine each year to go hunting for white-tailed deer with his brother Larry and friends. He also maintained freshwater aquariums for several years, loved reading, and enjoyed keeping his yard meticulously groomed and landscaped. He was always on the lookout for visitors. He especially liked to watch the hummingbirds and bunnies in the yard. In his spare time, he would attend car shows and Indy Car races.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 4pm-6pm at Schoedinger Northeast 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. Gahanna, Ohio 43240
