Rose Wiggins, 94, of Columbus, passed on to her Heavenly home on August 19, 2022. Rosie was born in Canton, Mississippi on November 27, 1927 to the union of the late William and Mary Franklin. In addition to her parents and siblings, Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Nemmie Wiggins, daughter Linda (Wiggins) Gleaves, and sons, Larry and Karl Wiggins.
Rose will be remembered for her generous and caring nature; she was known to everyone as "mom” and someone who was always ready with a hug. Rose was always supportive of her children and their interests to the point of allowing her home to become the "neighborhood" house! She will also be remembered as an excellent cook that could make any food delicious (her cornbread dressing, peach cobbler, candied yams and mac n cheese will be especially missed). Rose took great pride in her home and garden. Rose took to heart that “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” as her home was immaculate. She prided herself on her clean house, pristine yard and beautiful flower garden.
Rose was a lifelong member of Southfield Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Nurse’s Board. She then transitioned to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she has been a long time member in good standing. Rose had a deep love of education, learning and knowledge seeking. Her biggest mission was to ensure each of her six children received at a minimum a college education. Bar none. In addition to caring for her own children, Rose also served as a nurse’s assistant, nutrition counselor and child care specialist. She worked for many years as a Childcare Specialist at Hannah Neil Center For Children from where she retired. Everyone there loved her deep compassion and knowledge plus special ability to communicate with the children. Her chocolate chip cookies were said to have mind power over the children and staff, for once they bit into one, they were more receptive participants in communication.
Rose will be greatly missed by her daughters, Sharion Brown and Anna-Marie (Israel) Robinson and son, Kenny Wiggins. She leaves behind to mourn her 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, sister, brothers and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Family will receive friends on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 11am-12pm at FRIENDSHIP MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 1775 W Broad St, Columbus, OH 43223 where a funeral service will immediately follow at 12pm.
