Robert “Bob” Francis Kessler, 90, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Sunrise of Gahanna. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Stonybrook United Methodist Church, 485 Cherry Bottom Rd. Gahanna, Ohio.
Bob was born on November 5, 1931, in Columbus, Ohio to John and Lola (Boyer) Kessler. He graduated from Linden McKinley High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from Capital University. Bob continued his education by earning his master’s degree from The Ohio State University. His first teaching position took him to Elm Valley High School in Ashley, Ohio, but in 1955, “Mr. K” became the director of choirs and bands at Gahanna Lincoln High School in Gahanna, Ohio. During his 30 years at Gahanna, Bob taught hundreds of students who will remember him for his high expectations, dedication, and determination.
On August 12, 1967, Bob married Suzanne Fortney Kessler, his wife of 55 years. Together they enjoyed traveling and spending time at Lake Erie. Bob also enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, boating, fishing, having breakfast with the “Liar’s Club,” and spending time with family. Bob was also a skilled carpenter and spent many of his summers as well as his retirement years running his own construction business.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lola Kessler and his sister, Anna Elizabeth Kessler. Bob is survived by his wife, Suzanne, brother Charles (Patricia) Kessler of Johnstown, Ohio, son Robin (Judy) Kessler of Merritt Island, Florida, daughter Jill (John) Pemberton of Fremont, Ohio, grandchildren Derek, Erin, Sara, and Hannah as well as many nieces and nephews.
