Robert lived a full life. Born in 1946 to Walter and Hilda Hooper in Ashtabula, OH, and a graduate of Wilkes University, Robert married the love of his life, Cynthia Nitka, who joined him on the adventures of a lifetime. Living abroad in Sydney, Australia and Montreal, Canada, Robert and Cynthia also made NJ, NC, OH, PA, and Florida their home as they raised their two sons, Jeffrey and Justin.
Robert was successful in business and in life. His professional career began at Brystol Myer Squibb before moving on to Sterling Drug. After leaving Sterling Drug, Robert spent much of his professional career at Ross/Abbott Laboratories (President of Abbott Laboratories Canada) where he made lifelong friendships before joining IMS Health as their President of North America to close out his career.
In life, Robert and Cynthia traveled the world, visiting nearly 40 countries during their 53 years of marriage. Robert’s philanthropic endeavors included the Naples Humane Society, Make a Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and Big Brothers & Big Sisters. He was also a dedicated Hospice ‘companion’ for those in Hospice care. Robert was a loving, and generous father who was always teaching life lessons to his boys, and a wonderful “Papa” to his grandsons Dylan and Mitchell, mentoring them on how to become ‘fine young men’.
Today the world is a little less bright without Robert. He will be forever in our thoughts as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Christian Walter and Hilda (Nolan) Hooper. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia (Nitka) Hooper; his sons, Jeffrey (Angela) Hooper and Justin (Whitney) Hooper; and his aforementioned cherished grandsons, Dylan and Mitchell Hooper.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southwest Florida Parkinson’s Association in Robert’s name. The family will privately host a gathering remembering Bob.
