Maureen Lucille Wygant (October 11, 1944 - December 9, 2023) wove her life with many threads colored by family, friends, and music. She was born in Tampa, Florida and grew up in Lebanon, Ohio, surrounded by a loving family composed of sisters Elaine and Carlene, brother Nathan, parents, Edna and Carl Weber, and lots of music; melodies that would flow through her entire life, connecting her to the many people who will miss her voice, her kindness, her generosity, her humor, and her warmth. Maureen was singing on local radio in Lebanon by the age of five and continued singing throughout her life. She sang in the Capital University Chapel Choir during college; rang bells at Emmanuel Church in Sebring, Florida and Gates Fourth Church in Columbus; played piano to accompany others; taught voice lessons; sang in community theaters wherever she lived; and filled several church choirs with a heavenly song. She even began her career in music, majoring in Music Education at Capital University and teaching elementary and middle school music in New Jersey. Life handed her a different colored thread there, and she took up a long and successful career in sales, keeping music as her joy outside of work. She married Mel Wygant in 1965, and they raised two loving children together and also formed their own company, Computer Helper Publishing/Church Windows Software. There, in Columbus, Ohio, more colors of thread wove their way through her life. She was an avid golfer and achieved three holes in one (much to sister Elaine’s envy) and made many friends at the golf course. She was a social person who loved her family and friends fiercely, mothering anyone who needed it and always attending any concerts, plays, shows that her children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews were in, cheering them on and even giving lessons when they asked. She and Mel wove their life in two places, snowbirding between Gahanna, Ohio and Sebring, Florida for many years, and she also lived in the wide world, traveling all over the world with Mel, her grandchildren, and other family members. Her joy in talking about her travels was always bright and colorful, and everyone in the whole family has souvenirs and stories in their memories of her. Her family was the primary color of her life, and even though her grandsons ended up all over the country, she remained very close with all five of them. They will all miss her desperately, as will everyone who loved her. Her life was woven with many colors, each vibrant and beautiful and infused with the calming scent of lavender until glioblastoma came and took it all too quickly. Maureen left this earth a better place than it was before her, and we will all treasure her blanket of many colors forever. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Nathan, and son Michael. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Mel Wygant, daughter, Marla (Clark) Becker, daughter-in-law Erin Wygant (Doug Dehm) and grandsons Cameron, Aidan, and Larson Becker, and Hayden and Garrett Wygant. The family will receive visitors on Friday evening, December 29th from 6-8:30 at the Computer Helper office meeting room, 450 Beecher Rd, Gahanna. Maureen’s celebration of life will be on Saturday, December 30th at 11:00 AM at Gates-Fourth United Methodist Church, 1234 S. Fourth St, Columbus, OH 43206. Maureen loved flowers and bright colors, especially blue and lavender. Please join us in dressing in those joyful colors for her service.
