Madeleine Peters

Madeleine Benson Peters, 91, of New Albany, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. She was born December 14, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Frederick and Jeanne (Claverie) Benson. She worked for Ohio Bell Telephone Company for several years, and later stayed at home to be a devoted mother to her children. She volunteered tirelessly at church, first at St. Matthew’s and then at Church of the Resurrection in New Albany, where she was a founding member and a pillar of the church community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of almost 61 years, Robert Peters; siblings, Rose Marie Benson, Thomas Benson, Daniel Benson, Frederick Benson, Pierre Benson, Josephine Benson and Jacqueline McFadden.

Madeleine is survived by her children, James (Sheryl) Peters, Susan (Richard) Scheid, and Michael Peters; grandchildren, Rachel (Marlin) Springer, Jackie Peters, and Cassie Scheid; siblings, Charles “Leo” Benson, John Benson, Constance “Connie” Roy, and many nieces and nephews.

Madeleine loved people with her whole heart, and had countless friends. She considered her volunteer work her life’s mission, and made hundreds of cards to distribute to friends, family members, and even complete strangers who were in need. Her beautiful smile lit up a room, and her loving presence will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held 2-5 pm Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Monday at Church of the Resurrection, 6300 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., New Albany, OH 43054. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
