Linda Dawn Wedekind, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, departed this life at the age of 75 after a long and tenacious fight with many complications due to Progeria. Linda was known for her unwavering dedication to her family and her profession as a nurse.
Born in Miami, Florida, Linda graduated from North Miami Senior High. After getting married and starting a family, she moved to Ohio and graduated from nursing school. She spent 35-years at Canyon Medical Center, where she cared deeply for her patients and co-workers.
She had an unbelievable memory and loved immersing herself in movies, documentaries and books. She held a special admiration for former President John F. Kennedy and was incredibly proud of her own Irish heritage. Linda was a very proud lifelong Democrat. She also enjoyed caring for her plants and listening to James Taylor and Bruce Springsteen.
Linda was predeceased in death by her mother, Louise Wonser; her brother, Michael Wonser; and her beloved son, Chad Wedekind. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 56 years, Michael Wayne Wedekind, her children Todd (Laura) Wedekind and Tiffany Wedekind, her daughter-in-law, Julie Brown; and her treasured grandchildren, Michael Boston Wedekind, Zachary Wedekind, Cameron (Peyton) Wedekind, and Kenneth Chad Wedekind.
To honor Linda’s long struggle with the vast number of complications due to Progeria, her advanced aging disease, the family ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to the Progeria Research Foundation, PO Box 3453, Peabody, MA 01961-3453.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 26, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Schoedinger Northeast, located at 1051 East Johnstown Rd, Gahanna, OH 43230. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following morning, Friday, September 27, at 11:00 AM at Church of the Resurrection, Catholic Church, 6300 E. Dublin Granville Rd, New Albany, OH 43054, with interment at Glen Rest Memorial Gardens to follow.
