She was preceded in death by her parents John and Ruth Strachan, her loving husband of 60 years Bill King, her sweet grandchildren Christina Woerner and Jody Layman, and her brother John Strachan.
Joan is survived by her devoted children, Joy (Lonie) Coulter, Kathy (Don) Layman, and Larry (Julie) King; grandchildren, Bryon (Melissa), Grant (Jennifer), Sarah (Kyle), Michelle and Abby; 10 great grandchildren, Emerson, Gabe, Grace, Ella, Olivia, Cora, Louis, Kinley, Lucy, and Miles; her sister-in-law Glenna King; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joan graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School in 1948. She later became an avid tennis player with the Gahanna Tennis Club. Joan and her fond friends, Jeanenne, Glenna, Lorna, and Nancy, played in their Bunko Club for 56 years. Gahanna Community Church embraced Joan as a member for 64 years.
Joan enjoyed traveling and could recall amazing details of her many trips with Bill, family, and friends. She would often share her cherished photos and souvenirs. Many of Joan’s family and friends were fortunate to enjoy her delicious cooking. Her baking was not only therapy, but also her way of showing love and concern for others. Her generous heart will be greatly missed by all who know and love her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 11:30 am to 1:00pm at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 East Johnstown Rd. Gahanna, Ohio 43230 followed by a service beginning at 1:00pm officiated by Pastor Susan Langner of the Westerville Community United Church of Christ. Services will conclude at Zion Reformed Cemetery, 7917 High Point Rd. Thornville, Ohio 43076.
