Joan Martha Burrell

Joan M. Burrell, age 90 of Columbus, peacefully passed away on May 13, 2023. She was born December 27, 1932 in Newark NJ. A daughter to the late William and Martha Murphy. In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in passing by her late husband, Bernard R. Burrell. Joan enjoyed being a homemaker, taking care of her four sons, raising them to be successful professionals in all of their careers. Joan was a voracious reader of her favorite novels, especially books from the Regency Period. She always made sure her sons had magazines, books and encyclopedias at home so they would be successful at school. She loved sewing and knitting clothes for her sons while they were growing up.

Joan also loved gardening, especially growing irises, her favorite flower. Joan was a long-time volunteer at Ohio State University Medical Center where she was able to assist people with information about OSU Hospitals. One of her greatest passions in life was listening to her favorite musician, Andrea Bocelli. Joan was a super fan of the Italian Tenor, knowing all of his songs. Joan embraced new technology, always playing her games, first on her laptop then on her tablet. She also enjoyed using social media to keep up on the news and what was happening with friends and family. Joan is survived by her four sons William (wife Soula), Steven (wife Jane), James (wife Niuva) and Paul (wife Becky), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends may gather at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 10AM-12PM. Funeral service to begin at 12 PM. There will be an interment to follow at Mifflin Cemetery.
