A son to the late Allen and Christaetta Pierce. In addition to his parents Jan was preceded in death by his brother David and sisters Caroline and Nancy. He was also preceded in death by his beloved dogs Rusty and Bubs.
Jan was born on Union Street in Delaware, Ohio. This proved prophetic as Jan was a lifelong Union Man. He was raised in Columbus, Ohio and upon graduation from Linden McKinley in 1955 began working for Ohio Bell. Shortly thereafter he was elected to his first union office. He rose through the ranks in positions including President of Local 4320, Area Director, Upstate New York and New England, and Vice President, CWA District One a position he held until he retired in 1996.
Jan learned from his parents the concept of family and commitment to caring for others. Values he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle. He was loved and adored by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his nieces Terri, Kathy, Kim, and Joni.
Retirement allowed him to devote full time to the place he loved best, his farm in Quaker City, Ohio. The Family gatherings around a campfire will be fondly remembered by all. He loved running, farm projects, sunsets, just being on his tractor and the occasional beer. His joy and love for these things paled in comparison to his unlimited love, compassion and commitment to his wife, family, friends and communities.
