Gary L. Jones, Esq., age 84, of Blacklick, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on July 26, 2022, He was born February 25, 1938 in Middletown, Ohio to the late June (Ridenour) and Marion Jones. After attending Middletown High School, he attended The Ohio State University and Franklin University Law School.
Gary will be missed by devoted wife of 60 years, Donna Jones; son Michael (Frances) Jones; daughter Cheryl Jones; grandchildren Wilson, Victor and Eleanor Jones: brother Rodney Jones; sister and business partner Robyn Jones; nieces Christa (David) Parish and Barbara Jones; great niece Elizabeth (Josh Patton) Parish; great nephew Sean Parish; and many cousins and close friends.
Gary joined the firm of Wright, Gilbert and Jones shortly after law school. In 1971 he was appointed to Chief of the Liquor Permit Division for the Ohio Division of Liquor Control. Upon leaving that position, he opened the Jones Law Office where he represented clients ranging from the corner store to national corporations for many years. As he approached retirement, he was associated with the firm of Kephart Fisher and continued representing the hospitality industry. He was a member of many boards and commission, was the editor of Title 43(Liquor) Ohio Revised Code, for the Banks-Baldwin Law Publishing Company, and was the author of Chapter 15, Ohio Liquor Control, Ohio Administrative Law Handbook.
He will be remembered by many not only for his legal expertise, but also for his personal support of their visions.
Gary was an avid Ohio State sports fan and lifelong student of history and politics. He cherished time with his extended family. Despite continuing with the practice until the end, he found time to enjoy extensive travel in his later years, always hoping to find the next adventure.
Family will welcome friends at visitation 5-7 pm Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Schoedinger Northeast, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. Gahanna.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday. A celebration of life reception will follow.
