Emily Anne Scott

Age 30, a cherished daughter, sister, and fiancée was taken into God's arms on February 13, 2024. Emily attended Northridge High School in Johnstown, Ohio where she was active in multiple sports and arts programs, graduating near the top of her class in 2011. She attended The Ohio State University earning her Bachelor’s of Sciences degree in Forestry, Fisheries, and Wildlife, later garnering GIS certification from Penn State University.

Ultimately, Emily achieved her long-held dream of pursuing a master’s degree upon her acceptance to the University of Kentucky. She was to begin her graduate studies as a researcher of quail species.

Born June 17, 1993, Emily showed an intense interest and love of animals from childhood. Her elk research for the National Park Service at Fort Clatsop, Oregon, and nesting studies of Caspian Terns for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were just two of her many professional endeavors in natural science. As a wildlife researcher, she gained the respect of co-workers across the nation. Cancer, however, dashed her dreams and tragically cut short her bright future.

Following her diagnosis, Emily, along with Brian Thom, returned to central Ohio to be with her family. Engaged to be married, Emily and Brian were to celebrate their wedding on February 13th with family from both sides.

A rare combination of intellect and self-assurance, Emily suffered no fools, but had the most kind, fun-loving personality anyone could hope to know. Her laugh, smile, and love of life illuminated every room.

Grieving her loss are parents Kevin and Amy Scott, fiancé Brian Thom, brothers Alexander (Cynthia) and Evan Scott, grandmother V. Joan Scott, niece Fiona Scott, aunt Leane Chaney, uncle Kent Scott, and many cousins, friends, and loved ones throughout OH, OR, WA, KY, CO, WI, and Japan. Also missing her deeply is her beloved dog, Brutus. Emily is predeceased by grandparents, Ernie and Joanne Johnson and Gayle Scott, Jr.

Special thanks to the staff at the James Cancer Hospital, Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center, The Ohio State University School of Environment and Natural Resources, her church family at Jersey Baptist Church, and her work families in Oregon at Astoria Co+Op and Lewis and Clark National Historical Park.

A young woman of unrelenting drive and vision, Emily was poised for great things. The world has lost a champion.

Calling hours will be held at Jersey Baptist Church, 13260 Morse Rd. SW, New Albany, OH, 43054 on Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm immediately followed by a memorial service at 1:30 pm. We encourage all who loved Emily to join us in celebrating her life this Saturday.
