Ed was an unstoppable force in business and engineering. After graduating from Chartiers-Houston High School in Canonsburg, PA, where he held several track and field records for decades, he attended the University of Miami and the University of Pittsburgh, earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Ed devoted his career to Liebert Corporation, starting in 1972 as Vice President of Engineering, earning his Professional Engineer’s License, and holding various executive positions that included domestic and international sales. He co-founded ComputerSITE-PREParations, Inc., in 1989 and then rejoined Liebert as President of Liebert North America in 1990. His continued performance and enthusiasm led him to serve as President of Liebert Worldwide, President of Emerson Energy Systems in Stockholm, Sweden, President of F.G. Wilson in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Group Vice President, Business Leader, and eventually Chairman of Emerson Network Power before his retirement in 2012.
While he achieved tremendous success as an executive, Ed most enjoyed his time as a salesman, when he traveled the world teaching Liebert’s reps about the products he designed and refined in his earliest days as Liebert’s first chief engineer.
Above all, Ed dedicated his life to his family. His love for Karen spanned 56 years of marriage and homes together in Washington, PA, Worthington, OH, Belfast, Northern Ireland, New Albany, OH, Vermilion, OH, and Sarasota, FL, many of which Ed designed from the ground up. He captained his family aboard “Hoo-Wah” on the waters of Lake Erie for over 20 years. Ed found no better way to express his love than through his craftsmanship, shaping a second career in heartfelt and professional-quality woodworking projects for his wife, children, and grandchildren that will be forever treasured.
Ed lived without ever having known his father, Paul Ross Feeney, who died in service to his country aboard the U.S.S. Indianapolis in July 1945. His family’s greatest hope is that they have now been reunited.
Ed is survived by his wife Karen (Linton) Feeney, his children Kristy Kovalcik (Matthew), Paul Feeney (Chad Braun), and Michael Feeney (Kimberly), his five grandchildren, James, Eleanor, Mary, Kaelyn, and Amelia, and his half-siblings, Raymond Lawton (Sally), Meridy Koceski (Leon), and Elaine Walbeck (Joseph). Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Paul Feeney and Mary Kathryn (Hewitt) Feeney Lawton, and his step-father, Henry Lawton.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13th, from 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, in Gahanna, OH. His funeral service will be held on Friday, June 14th, at 12:00 p.m., at the same location.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the DDX3X Foundation at ddx3x.org/donate Ed’s youngest granddaughter, Amelia, is living with DDX3X syndrome. Please make any donations in honor of Amelia Feeney so the family may appropriately express their gratitude.
