Doug B. Askew

Doug was born in 1950 in Whitewater, WI. He attended military academy as a youth, and enrolled at Southern Illinois University, and also took classes at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.

A man of many hobbies and something of a renaissance man, in his later years Doug spent countless nights stargazing and taking deep space photographs, enjoyed birding and gardening, and was always eager to share his observations, photographs, and knowledge of nature. He volunteered his time at the Columbus Metro Parks for nearly a decade.

His family was the true pride of his life, however. Doug was an affectionate and devoted husband to his wife Patricia Ann (née McMahon), a loving father to his sons Daniel and Michael (Mary) and daughter Jennifer (Rick), a doting grandfather of seven, and a proud great-grandfather of three. Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Irene Leonardson and Arthur Askew, his stepfather Floyd Leonardson, stepmother Mary Jane Woitesek, cousin David Lindrew, and his son Daniel. He is survived by many close cousins, including Lynn Shaffer, Connie Schneider, Jim Ryan, Roger Lindrew, Joyce Lindrew, and Jerry Lindrew.

Visitation for Doug will be held Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Schoedinger Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH 43230. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following morning, Monday, April 14, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 807 Havens Corners Rd, Columbus, OH 43230.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude Children's Hospital.
