Dorothy Irene Boone died on September 29, 2023. She was born on October 8, 1941, to Johnston and Madeline Glass (Ferguson) in Avonmore, PA. Dorothy graduated from Bell-Avon High School and then obtained a BA degree from Grove City College, PA. She went on to receive a master’s degree in public administration from The Ohio State University. She worked as a Planner in the Area Agency on Aging in Lima, OH where she was instrumental in developing The Hanby House, a retirement home for low-income men. She also served as Planner and Human Resource Director for the Washington County Maryland Commission on Aging. While there, she was instrumental in establishing the annual Senior Fair. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, David Boone and sister, Jane Deale. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Rawley Boone, her daughter Betsy (Boone) Nguyen, Son-in-law Uy Nguyen, and grandchildren Ashley and Reese; Sister Mary Glass of Wilmington, DE, Brother Johnston Glass (Aileen) of Deep Creek, MD, Brother-in-law George Boone (Carol) of Hummels Wharf, PA, Sister-in-law Sarah Ellen Larson (Gary) of Erie, PA and 6 nieces and nephews. Dorothy lived out her Christian faith by serving in various roles in her church as well as singing in the choir. She loved to travel and pursue family genealogy. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Oct. 16 at 11:00 am at the Broad Street Presbyterian Church in Columbus, OH. A visitation will take place after the service. Donations may be made in her memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
