Oh my goodness, I just saw Dana's obituary, having moved from Ohio to Michigan. As a former work colleague, I have not seen or spoken to Dana since I retired from the USAO in November 2013, however, as I read the comments from his friends and colleagues, they accurately sustain my memories  of this soft spoken  gentle man.  
   I was assigned in charge of the Columbus USAO office law library. This, despite my not being a librarian,  or  having had any training in library science.  Luckily, as Dana's office was closeby, I often asked him for help, which he gave generously.   Since my library duties were not included in my yearly evaluation, Dana himself wrote for me a detailed positive appraisal.
    Thank you, Dana. ( I haven't forgotten the coffee creamer.) Rest in peace.

As it is with many of our friends and fellow classmates, we are just left with the memories we created while growing up together. Though I have not seen Dana for several years, I am left with many great memories of Dana a.k.a. “Tramp” from skiing at Valley High and listening to Dana and Jim’s guitar jam sessions above their garage and not to mention hanging out some at the Golden Boy Drive In. Dana sold me his set of Head Skies and Boots when I decided to get more serious about skiing back in the day. I always get Flash Backs of Dana when I see vintage Boss 302 Mustangs at car shows or on the street.

When I first became a prosecutor, Dana, who was already in the Civil Division, was assigned to come back and train me.  He stayed with me through my first jury trial.  He taught me the importance of preparation and boy, did we prep for that trial.  We met the officers at the scene, at the same time of the incident and the officers reinacted everything, including running through backyards, all while Dana captured this on video! Won the case at trial and it was upheld on appeal.  Thank you Dana for training me to be a successful litigator and detail oriented attorney.

In the process of this mentorship, he learned that I was taking golf lessons.  He let me know that his colleagues Lisa Sadler and Sue Pohler golfed and they needed a fourth due to someone moving out of state.  Thanks to Dana, that was the beginning of a lasting friendship.  

Rest in peace Dana!  See you later!

I knew Dana my whole childhood & teenage years. We ran with the same group of wonderful friends & always had wonderful times! Especially at the Ski Slope at Valkey Hi. Though we completely lost connection, I will always remember Dana, the green Boss 302 & the Le Chateau Bleu on Milligan Road. Rest peacefully old friend. ❤️❤️

I was lucky enough to have Dana as both a friend, confidant and colleague. As a friend he was fun, trusted and caring, and as a colleague he was  smart, tenacious and intense. He helped prepare me for an argument before the Ohio Supreme Court and believe me, there was no stone unturned on our preparation. He made a great Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz entourage we were in one night when we campaigned for Ron O'Brien for city attorney. Dana was one of a kind and I will always remember his smile, his laugh, and his wicked sense of humor. It seems to me he lived life to the fullest - RIP DanaBuck ❤️

We knew Dana in high school BEFORE he went ‘,“straight” and became an attorney! We spent many an hour skiing at Valley Hi, working at Krogers as bag boys, running the backroads of Logan county with our ,”hot” cars, Aliens 428 Mach 1, Dana’s Boss 302(the green car), Mooches green  V W Beetle,and my 6 cylinder Plymouth Valiant!Dana even ran a chop shop, I know, hard to believe of Dana! This was ,”Dana “ before! While I was at work Dana, Jim ,and Mike Dee, borrowed my faded blue Plymouth Valiant. I was out sweeping in front of Krogers when I saw a Plymouth Valiant go by. It was painted yellow, had a black hood and had the rear end jacked with muffler clamps on the shocks! It was sometime before I realized it was MY Valiant that had been transformed ( without asking) by Dana and his ,”chop” shop!😃! There are multiple good memories of Dana growing up in Bellefontaine and I’m sure it was formative in his becoming the wonderful lawyer he later became!
We will miss you our beloved,”Tramp” (old high school nickname) we all hope to see you on the other side brother! Peeg, Mooch, and Alien! 

Met Dana first day at City Prosecutor in May 1985 while still a Law Student.   The office was set up 2 interns at a time and we were young partners "in crime" so to speak.   So many talks laughs and naive wisdom we had side by side during those early years.   Always a man of great honor loyalty and integrity. 

I can't imagine this world without Dana.  He was my rock during my tenure in the U.S. Attorney's Office.  We spent countless hours together in the basement of the old courthouse marking exhibits and  prepping for trial.   An excellent trial lawyer --  a true gentleman -- the kindest person you will ever meet.  You will be missed so much, dear friend.

Dana is a true gentelman and fine lawyer. He worked tirelessly fighting for justice as a prosecutor and always achieved fair and just results. Our world is a sadder place without Dana. 

Dana joined the City Prosecutors office as a law student intern and upon graduation became an Asst Prosecutor and excelled due to his work ethic and intelligence. I recommended him for an opening in the US Atty office where he again became a top flight federal prosecutor and focused on Terrorism cases after 911. He had a great sense of humor and will be remembered and missed by co-workers, colleagues and many friends.

Dana, my colleague, mentor and most importantly friend.  I have lost a earthly friend and gained a special angel.  All that I have learned from you will never be forgotten, it gets me through many days to remember the things you said and taught me.  Remembering your Paris trip, the dinner with the French authorities and their security response to a car back firing will always bring your laughter and a smile to my face. A job well done my friend.

Dana and I started our legal careers around the same time. He was a great friend and mentor.  I could alway call upon him for just about anything,  We had such fun times early in our careers and those memories will always be cherished
He will be missed.

I am so saddened today to hear of this news about Dana. I worked with Dana for many years at the USAO. He was a dedicated attorney who worked extremely hard with grit dedication to his work and with his teammates. I had the office next to his so it was a daily exchange of barbs with humor added to the mix. He was intelligent, determined, honest, great dry sense of humor, you never knew what was coming next, a deep thinker, a challenger of wits and yes a little scary at times when he held your feet to the fire. I learned a lot from Dana throughout the years and had many interesting conversations on a gambit of topics. Barbara Vanarsdall
