Cynthia “Cindy” Kay Brockman, 66, of New Albany, Ohio, surrounded by love and her family, passed away peacefully at the Cleveland Clinic on Sunday, November 25, 2023, after more than a five-year battle with cancer. She was born January 7, 1957, in Fort Ord, California, and was the first of four children born to Donald Brockman & Carolyn Brockman (Combs).
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents Paul Donald (Don) Brockman (2015) and Carolyn Brockman (2004), and is survived by sisters Peggy Ann Brockman, Deborah Brockman Finnical (Allan Finnical), brother Paul Donald Brockman, Jr. (Margie Hegg), and nephews Rhys Rian Brockman and Liam Luke Brockman. She is also survived by many wonderful cousins and friends especially the Rowland’s, Ignash’s, Merch’s, Vogele’s, Cohill’s, Bolte’s, Waugh’s and Drum’s as well as all victims of cancer.
As an Army brat, Cindy grew up across the country and in Germany then settled in Columbus, Ohio, with her family in the mid 1970’s. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University with a BS in Mathematics and Psychology in 1979. She then achieved her Juris Doctorate from OSU College of Law in 1981.
For most of her career she worked for GE, in Cincinnati and resided in West Chester. This afforded her the opportunity to travel the world, which she truly loved, and to be close to her God Parents, Aunt Joan and Uncle Rich, as well as all the Cohill cousins and extended families. Whenever she traveled, she always came home with stories, which typically included at least one incident of her being lost. While living in West Chester, she came to Columbus every weekend to help her siblings care for our father after his stroke.
A life-long learner, Cindy was an avid reader and was very intentional about staying well informed about the world; she was a self-proclaimed political junkie. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she took the same learning approach to her treatment and her doctors were always impressed with her level of knowledge and proactive approach.
Cindy was devoted to her family, especially her nephews, whom she affectionately referred to as her “Chickadees” and said they were “the light of my life.” She always found time to spend with them, whether it was attending school activities, hanging out, sharing meals, or learning about “Saints Of Summer,” otherwise known as SOS. Spending time with her family always brought her great joy.
There is nothing like a sister; Cindy will be missed dearly and be remembered as a person of deep faith who was kind and generous, possessed a great sense of wit and humor, could make everyone laugh, even in the most tense situations, was a tremendous OSU fan and never found a rule she couldn’t break or negotiate. She accepted people for who they are, and her friendship was a gift.
There are many people to thank who provided love and support to Cindy throughout her journey, too many to thank individually, but please know you are appreciated. A special thank you to Beth Mersch for her support not only to Cindy, but to her family as well.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 4PM to 7PM at the Schoedinger-Worthington Funeral Home, 6699 North High Street, in Worthington, Ohio 43085. A Catholic mass will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, 9AM at The Church of the Resurrection, 6300 East Dublin Granville Road in New Albany, OH 43054. In lieu of flowers, Cindy would like you to make a donation to The Cleveland Clinic. This can be done at Donate to Cleveland Clinic (ccf.org).
