Charlie was born December 13, 1941 in Harold Kentucky and made his home in Columbus Ohio. He is a graduate of Whitehall Yearling High School, class of 1959.
After graduation, Charlie married his high school sweetheart, Darlene. Charlie and Darlene were members of Norton Church of Christ/Eastpointe Christian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder until transferring membership to Tri-Village Christian Church in 2015. Charlie was a former manager and vice president of Evans & Schwartz shoe company in the 1970's and a sales rep for Sebago Shoes until retirement.
Charlie loved Jesus, family and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an outstanding, dedicated teacher who loved teaching adult Sunday School classes. He was a history buff, sports fan and he thoroughly enjoyed showing his family our beautiful country and it's rich history.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Reka, brother Bob and sister in law Rita, and nephew Craig Collier.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Darlene, daughter Sherri (Andy) Courtney, son Brian (Lisa) Jones, daughter Laura (Mark) Fillinger.
Grandchildren Megan Jones, Jeremy (Marissa) Courtney, Kelsey (Pete) Waller, Chandler (Brent) Teraoka, Gabrielle Courtney (Stephen Bliss), Cole Fillinger and Camryn Jones.
Brother Ron (Pat) and nephew Jeff (Autumn) and children Mason and Piper, niece (from brother Bob & Rita) Debbie (Russ) Indelicato and children Anastasia and Rob. And many extended family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 5th at Tri-Village Christian Church in Pataskala Ohio. Visitation hour at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 officiated by Pastor Paul Snoddy and son Pastor Brian Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Charlie's church, Tri-Village Christian Church or CancerCare to assist them in continuing to provide free programs and financial services to anyone affected by cancer. Dr. Mark Segal, his oncologist at the Zangmeister Cancer Center, was instrumental in Charlie's care for the 17 years he battled kidney cancer.
