Carolyn Wickerham Cheely

Carolyn Wickerham Cheely, born on Groundhog day, February 2, 1934 in Hicksville, Ohio. Passed away on April 2, 2023 at Chestnut Hill Senior Living, Memory Care under the care of Wesley Hospice. Predeceased by parents, Silas Wickerham and Audrey (Everett) Wickerham, and sister Patsy Willson. She is survived by her daughters Wendy and Cindy (David Halsey), nephew Steven Isenbarger and 4-legged kids, Kensee and Kenny. Carolyn graduated from Hicksville High School class of 1951 and enlisted in the Army serving as a WAC from 1951-1953. After her daughters reached Junior High School, she was a civilian employee at the 83rd ARCOM and then as a US Army reservist in the same capacity as an administrative assistant to 5 generals. She received numerous Meritorious Service Medals, retiring with 20 years of service, and was a proud honorary Kentucky Colonel. Carolyn volunteered with Precious Secrets Sheltie Rescue which led to fostering over 13 shelties. Carolyn liked to read and do jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, and crossword puzzles. She liked the Cleveland Browns, all OSU sports, especially women’s basketball being a season ticket holder for well over 20 years, but Carolyn’s most favorite thing was to go, with her daughter Cindy, to Hicksville every month to have lunch with the girls from the class of ’51. Unfortunately, when the pandemic came, the lunches stopped. Special thanks for the friendships given to my mom over the years by Pam Linder and Cathy Tucker from PSSR, and Linda Hess, an honorary daughter for over 40 years. We give special thanks to the caregivers in the memory care community at Chestnut Hill Assisted Living Memory Care and to Amanda, Ann and Derek from Wesley Hospice. There will be no formal visitation; however, viewing will be open on Thursday April 6, 2023 from 12-1pm followed by a private graveside service at Maplewood Cemetery, New Albany. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wesley Hospice, 4588 Wesley Woods Blvd Suite 2A, New Albany, OH 43054, to any animal rescue or charity of your choice.
