December 28, 1946 - June 22, 2024
Carol Anne Thomas, age 77, of Gahanna, Ohio passed away June 22, 2024. Born December 28, 1946 to the late John William and Wilma Mary Steele of Columbiana, Ohio, and was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray Thomas; sister, Mary Katherine (Kaye); and son-in-law, Robert Atkinson. Carol was a nurse at Akron General before she became mother and then took on all trades as any mother does as a nurse, chauffer, cook, organizer, horticulturalist, etc. In later years, she had careers as a home cleaner, drawing blood for the American Red Cross and secretary. She is survived by her brother Rev. Bill Steele (Becky); daughters Anne Atkinson (Rob) and Heather Reese; son Matthew Thomas (Rose); grandchildren: Riak Reese (Karla); Nhevi Reese (Jarrod); Journi Blake (Joshua); and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She loved flower gardening, working in her yard and hummingbirds. She also loved woodworking with her husband, building anything from furniture to colonial items. Her family's love of Christmas carried on through her. Carol and Ray loved to travel all over the country and overseas. Carol was very involved as a member of Stonybrook United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities including her love of singing in the choir. Even with Alzheimer's, she didn't forget her beloved church and wanted to continue to serve her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Carol's dear friend, Karen Barnes, to whom we are so thankful for her unwavering love and dedication to accompany mom in the later years.
Services will be led by Carol's brother, Rev. Bill Steele, at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast Funeral Home, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230:
