She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1962, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Betty chose to pursue a career in marketing communications that took her to Toledo and Grand Rapids before she finally settled in Detroit, where she met her husband of 55 years, Robert A. Young of Grosse Pointe Park. They raised two daughters, Elizabeth and Jeanne, in East English Village & Grosse Pointe Park. Betty's entrepreneurial pursuits in the culinary arts included food styling, educating, and helping usher in culinary technology via microwave ovens by organizing trade shows and demonstrating recipes in Hudson's stores throughout the metro area. By the 1980s, Betty found what would be her life's work and passion in helping local businesses build their brands. Building relationships ultimately led her to add the title Publisher for state and regional masonry association magazines The Story Pole, MasonryEdge and SMART | dynamics of masonry.
She cared deeply about people and small business, which led her to open her own advertising agency, bsYOUNG & associates, in 1988 out of her sunroom before proudly moving into the Punch and Judy building. Through a business program at Grosse Pointe South, Betty was able to provide business experience to students. In all, she helped launch the careers of dozens of young adults in the Grosse Pointes and surrounding area for four decades.
Betty cherished her community at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church and found purpose and joy in singing in the choir, serving as a deacon, member of the communications committee and marketing advisor.
