Asante Taaj Omar Miller of Columbus, OH went home to be with the Lord on August 11, 2024. He was born October 1, 2002 to two loving parents Atiba Miller and Jennifer Lawson Summers. Between the cities of Middletown, DE and Columbus, OH, his Pop Pop, Nene, Uncle Ray and Aunnie all helped Asante’s parents raise a strong, kind son. In the good and the bad, he had the constant companionship of his sister, Kiera, whom he looked up to in all things, as well as his cousins Jalen and Gavin Mitchell.
From the time he was born, Asante naturally excelled at everything he did: academics, athletics, and making other people feel known and loved with his charming smile, winsome humor, and endless library of music - always knowing the right song to play at the right time. Asante was simply a natural at everything he did without even trying.
After high school, Asante knew he needed to do two things: work tirelessly at any job he had, and surround himself with the company of loving Christian family and friends. It was especially during these last years that Asante’s faith became his own as he fought the difficulties he faced in life - depending on God in prayer, relying on the Psalms for his every day strength, all the while being constantly pursued and helped by his family and roommates - foremost by his Mom and closest friend, Kaden Lamar.
Asante will forever be remembered for his endurance - not just by his co-workers and supervisors at work, but by his family and friends for his endurance in his faith in God amidst affliction. As they mourn the loss of Asante, his family is following his example by clinging to the truth of Scripture he and Kaden strove to memorize from heart: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him’.” (Lamentations 3:22-24)
Asante is survived by his mother, Jennifer Lawson Summers (Jake); his father, Atiba Miller; sister, Kiera Miller Jones (Trent); grandmother, Gail Johnson Miller; great-grandmother, Loretta Allen; his baby nephew, Ernie Jones, who Asante longed to be a righteous uncle to; and countless other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Theodore “Pop Pop” Miller, and grandmother, Toni Eisen.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you make donations to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Maranatha Community Church in Pickerington, OH or Linworth Baptist Church in Worthington, OH.
Visitation with the family will be held from 10AM-12PM on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at New Faith Church in Canal Winchester (6700 Thrush Dr, Canal Winchester, OH 43110), with a funeral service to follow at 12PM, and graveside burial at Union Grove Cemetery at 1PM.
