Anita Jean Proffitt

Anita Jean (née Barker) Proffitt, 68, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023. She was born October 5, 1954 in Fairmont, West Virginia to the late McCoy and Mabel (Wright) Barker. She enjoyed getting her nails done with her daughter, Ashley. Singing karaoke with her daughter, Jeannie. Anita was a workaholic, loved fast cars and motorcycles, spending time with family and friends, collecting stiletto shoes, crocheting and knitting, and eating at T & L Hot Dogs in West Virgina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Dean Proffitt; sister, Alma Mae Duckett; and brothers, William “Bill” Barker, Everett Barker, and Coy Jr. Barker. Anita is survived by her loving daughters, Elvira “Jeannie” (Glenn) Beal and Ashley (Michael) Gilmore; daughter by heart, Alexis (Joey) McKenzie; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Delford (Joyce) Barker, Mary Rose Gump, and Mona Ann Anderson; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held 10am – 12:30pm on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Faith Life Church, 2407 Beech Rd NW, New Albany, OH 43054 with Funeral Service following at 12:30pm. Interment Green Hill Cemetery, Johnstown. A Memorial Service will be held in Mannington, WV at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Schoedinger Northeast.
