Andrew “Andy” D. Bertrand, 44, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on May 22, 2022. He was born in Columbus on December 14, 1977, to Philip and Sandra Bertrand. Andy was preceded in death by Grandparents Arthur Duncan, Victoria Duncan, Geraldine Bertrand, John Bertrand, and Aunt Ginny Farrell.
Andy graduated from St. Francis DeSales High School in 1996. While there, he achieved the Eagle Scout rank of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a proud Air Force Veteran. He enlisted in the Air Force in January of 1997, earning an honorable discharge. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina for 4 years earning several decorations: Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Small Arms Expert, Marksmanship Ribbon/Rifle, and National Defense Service Medal and many others. Andy also served in the Ohio National Guard at Rickenbacker Air Base for 3 years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Andy had a long career in aviation where he interacted with and was loved by many people. After completing his time in the National Guard, Andy held Director of Maintenance and FAA compliance positions at Airnet Systems, Duncan Aviation (Michigan), Nashville Jet (Tennessee), a private assignment in Dubai, Constellation Productions (Florida), NetJets, Dallas Airmotive (Texas), Lane Aviation, Aircraft Maintenance and Management Solutions (self-employment), Mission Essential, Elliott Aviation (Georgia), and most recently Manager-Aircraft Maintenance/Fixed Base Operation at The Ohio State University’s Don Scott Airport. He was highly respected in his field and was passionate about every job opportunity he held.
Andy was well known for his humorous nature and for making people laugh. His smile was infectious and he loved to joke around. He was creative and enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling, watching hockey, and tinkering with different projects around the house. He was gifted and took great pride in working with his hands. He loved spending time with his children, family, and three cats. Andy had a heart of gold helping others when they were in need.
Andy will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving children, Ashley Bradburn (Abrey), Kaitlyn Bertrand (Pablo Lazu), Jason Bertrand, and Finley Bertrand; his grandchildren Kylie, Maicey, and Jack Bradburn; parents Sandy and Phil Bertrand; his siblings Tim Bertrand (Rachel), Nicole Alexander (Arick) and Angela Tarr (Dylan); Nieces Ava, Harper, and Olivia; his former wife Laurie Bertrand and girlfriend Hether McVay.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 31st, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E Johnstown Rd, Gahanna. A funeral service conducted by Fr. Angelo Anthony, a friend of Andy, will take place on Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Inurnment will be a private ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Andy’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
