Alexis A. Jacobs passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022. She was born in Columbus on March 28, 1942 to the late William and Freda M. Jacobs. Alexis was the proud owner of one of the largest independent automobile auctions, Columbus Fair Auto Auction.
Alexis grew up in the auction business as her father established the auction in 1958 on the Columbus Fairgrounds. After high school, Alexis began her distinguished career in accounting and upon her father’s passing in 1982, at age 40 Alexis assumed the operating role for the auction. Fierce in her intention, she was encouraged to sell the auction. Instead, she hit the road and secured the future of her company.
Alexis was the former President of the National Auto Auction Association, awarded NAAA's Pioneer Award, a NAAA Hall of Fame inductee, recipient of the COLUMBUS AUTOMOBILE DEALERS ASSOCIATION INC's Automotive Achievement Award, inducted into the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA) "Ring of Honor", a founder of Used Car News, Ann Isaly Wolfe Award and a founder of the Ohio Independent Automobile Dealers Association and many more.
Alexis was very charitable, sharing her success with many organizations, including; Columbus Urban League, Columbus College of Art and Design, Franklin Park Conservatory, Columbus Zoo, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, OSU Small Animal Vet Center, Special Olympics and more. She was also passionate about Archie Griffin’s Scholarship Foundation and made it her priority as she embraced his mission.
Alexis loved owning an auction and shaping the culture of the business into a family. She loved dining, travel, shopping and being in the moment. Alexis was a competitive fisherman and was often acknowledged as a top lady angler. After selling the auction in 2019, Alexis spent a lot of time in Key West, where she adjusted comfortably with her labradoodle companion, Lucy.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30pm on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the Barn at Franklin Park Conservatory, 1777 E Broad St, Columbus, OH 43203. A Celebration of Life will follow until 7pm. Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST.
