Mrs. Wilma Joyce Firestone was born on June 1st, 1940 in Gadsden, Alabama to John Doyle Bullard and Sarah Grayce Teague-Bullard. She gained her wings on May 12, 2022 at Riverview Regional Medical Center at 81 years of age.
Mrs. Firestone’s life was filled with extraordinary adventures that seemed to have no end. She cherished life and all that came with it. Those who were blessed enough to be touched by her understand that her existence and the imprint she left on their hearts exceed the quantity of time that Mrs. Firestone had on this earth. When Wilma wasn’t working, she spent a tremendous amount of time at the beach with her family. Not a day went by where she didn’t talk about how much her children and family meant to her. Her family and her career was arguably the most important achievements in her life.
She spent the early years of her life serving the people of her community. As a 4-H member, Mrs. Firestone was an outstanding young citizen. From participating in home restorations to canning food for the underprivileged. Throughout her career in 4-H she won multiple competitions, her highest honor was when she won the National Dress Revue of 1955 in Chicago at the age of 15.
As she continued to volunteer in her community, Mrs. Firestone found her love for caregiving. At the age of 17, she enrolled at The Holy Name of Jesus Hospital School of Nursing, where she would later graduate in 1961 as a Registered Nurse. After serving 55 years in multiple fields of nursing, she retired to spend the rest of her life with her family.
Mrs. Firestone is preceded in death by her grandparents John Henry Bullard (Dovie Ollie), her parents John Doyle Bullard (Sarah Grayce), sibling Christopher Bullard, her husband Gerald Firestone, and child Niles Firestone.
Mrs. Firestone is survived by her sister Sheila Bullard Parris (Bo), children Shawn Firestone (Rachelle), Michelle Firestone Stargell, grandchildren Eric Firestone (Brandi), Misty Cornelius (Wyatt), Ceara Scott (Justin), Jordan Stargell (Victoria), Savannah Lancaster (Jeff), Laura Grayce Stargell, Amon Firestone, great grandchildren Dylan Edwards (Kara), Cody Edwards (Kathleen), Zayden Scott, Henlsey Lancaster, Zoey Scott, Cohen Lancaster, great great grandchild Maisie Edwards, and multiple other family and friends.
