Wanda Lee Joy Mitchell Parker, 90, Gadsden, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Gadsden health Care and Rehab. Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2105 at Collier-Butler Chapel. Rev. Craig Carlisle, Rev. Lauil Thompson and Rev. Bill Drummons will officiate. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mrs. Parker was born in Springville, AL in 1925 and later moved to Gadsden where her father opened a grocery business. She attended Gadsden High School and Gadsden Business College. She worked at Camp Sibert as a Secretary in the early 1940’s.
She was a longtime member of Twelfth Street Baptist Church, where she taught Training Union and was active in the W.M.U. She was very active in the P.T.A. while her children attended elementary school. She started her monogramming business in 1965. She worked out of her home for Bud’s Men’s Clothing, Penny’s, Belk’s and East Gadsden Sporting Goods, and for many others.
Mrs. Parker moved to Regency Pointe 10 years ago. She enjoyed the friendships made while ther.
The joys of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed life so much and never met a stranger. She always had a sweet smile on her face. “Her children rise up and call her blessed.”
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Mack; parents, B.W. and Lillian Mitchell; parents-in-law, G.O. and Etta Parker; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Earl Boles; nephew, Randy Boles; great-granddaughter, Mattie Grace Garmon; and step-mother, Violet Mitchell.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Sharon) Parker of Long Island, NY; daughters, Marianne (Lowell) Fuhrman of Southside; and Lynne (Robby) Newton of St Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, April (Chad) Roberson, Alicia (Michael) Garmon, Andrea Fuhrman all of Gadsden, Leslie (Neil) Perrin of Fredricksburg, VA, Matt (Megan) Newton of Tacoma, WA, Ginger Gentile of Argentina, and Joyce Gentile of San Diego, CA; step-brothers, Larry and Sam Boatfield; great-grandchildren, Dakota and Emily Garmon, Haleigh and Anthony Roberson, Gage Fuhrman, Justin Price, Quintyn Turner, Julian and Zoey Perrin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Lee Hamm of Hamilton.
Pallbearers are great-grandsons and special friend, Keith Raines.
Honorary pallbearers will be her deacon, Rick Kemp; nurses at Camillia Lawley Hospice; and all nurses and CNA’s on 200 Hall at Gadsden Health Care and Rehab.
Special thanks to all her friends at Regency Pointe who she dearly loved and to the ladies who sat together at lunch.

The family will accept friends Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
