Having lived a joyful life, Talmadge Howard Ponder, 75, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022, at his home in Glencoe, Alabama, surrounded by loving family members and caretakers. He was born on April 3, 1947, to Mr. Burl Ponder and Mrs. Maurine Ponder (Hays), growing up in the Alabama City Community of Etowah County with his siblings, Billy Ray, Jerry SR., Glenda Faye, Ronald, Vickie, Becky, and Linda.
He was 75 years of age at his time of death and will be sorely missed.
Talmadge resided in Glencoe, Alabama, in the home where he raised his loving family of over 49 years; he passed away in that very same home surrounded by the ones who loved and cared for him.
Those who have preceded Talmadge in death include his parents, Burl and Maurine Ponder, brothers Billy Ray and Jerry Sr., Sister Glenda Faye, and His ephemeral great-grandchild, Elias Hardman.
Talmadge is survived by his loving wife, Donna Sharlene Ponder (Foster), Daughters Stephanie Price and husband Brian, Monica Dowdy and husband Scott, Deidra Gilliland and husband, Randal. Grandchildren Phillip Dowdy, Haley Cox (Gilliland) and husband Connor, Camron Dowdy, Kaylee Hardman (Price) and husband Seth, Emily Gilliland, Samantha Rhodes (Price) and husband Tyler, Lauren Dowdy, and Malachi Price. Great Grandchildren Kanaan Hardman, Madelaine Cox.
Included family: Patricia Ponder, Danny Autwell, Brian Dial, Sue Ponder, and Pat Ponder, with many nieces and nephews.
Above all his worldly accomplishments (and there were many), he was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Talmadge was a charter member of the North Glencoe Church for 40-plus years.
Talmadge had an exemplary career with Alabama Power Company, where he excelled through the ranks over his 46+ years of service.
Talmadge was a person of deep spiritual convictions and lived a principled life in all his dealings with others; his love of old cars and Alabama Football was his passion. As an athlete and a graduate of Emma Sansom High School, Talmadge excelled in playing Basketball and Football, where he earned numerous honors.
Talmadge took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He also became a very loving and nurturing great-grandfather. All who knew Talmadge understood his journey with "MS" over several decades. Thanks to the Glencoe Police and Fire for the late nights, namely, Richard Johnson and Ben Huff.
Visitation/Church Service will be from 12 to 2 pm Saturday, September 3, 2022, at North Glencoe Church. Graveside Services will be at 3 pm Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Rainbow Memorial Cemetery with Bro. Brian Price is officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Multiple Sclerosis foundation or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
